Awesome Female Characters

So choosing just one female character to discuss in nearly impossible for me. I love a lot of them and for very different reasons.

There are the superheroines, Buffy and Sydney Bristow, who can kick ass while looking cute. There are the fucked up nitwits of Jenny Shecter and Meredith Grey, who are f'ed up in different ways but still extremely f'ed up. There's Veronica Mars and Kara Thrace and Alma Garret. Basically there are a lot of people I could talk about but I'm going to talk about Gertrude Yorkes.



Gertrude Yorkes is one of the Runaways. She briefly went under the name Arsenic after finding out her parents were evil time travelers who were part of the Pride and attempting to end the world. She also has a dinosaur. Gert is my favorite runaway even though she has been dead for many issues.

There are so many reasons to love Gert. She's smart and has purple hair. She always kind of suspected that her parents were evil. When presented with terrifying situations she freaks out but then still tries to solve them. She was going to grow up to be the leader of the Avengers. She loves Chase even though she probably shouldn't. (The fact that Chase loves her back, loves her so much that he would kill himself to bring her back, is a major point why I love Chase. Gert dies in his arms twice, and each is incredibly sad.) She doesn't look like anyone else in the comic, she's aware of this but doesn't let it bother her. Gert is herself, always, and that's why I love her.

Here are some panels of her extreme awesomeness in the face of danger. Chase kind of drowns towards the end of the first arc of Runaways (it's all his own fault) but it's Gert who saves him. These panels are some of my favorite.



I love that Gert freaks out when first confronted with this but all she needs is someone who can tell her what to do so that she can do it. She's thinking clearly even while she is freaking out. So then she does CPR and this happens.




So MUCH LOVE! Only Gert would get angry over people thinking that she kissed someone.

Gert is a fabulous person. Her relationship with Chase is fantastic. She is the most level headed of all the runaways even when she is being impractical. Gert, you sure are missed.

Gert is pretty awesome I agree. Runaways is probably the one thing out of Marvel I've really enjoyed since 2000.
