I revise earlier opinion on Outlander. It's kind of aggressively not good. I don't believe anything about the whole book. And despite me being told over and over how awesome the heroine is (by herself mind you since the book is in first person) I can't stand her. She has a serious case of Too Stupid Too Live if I ever saw one. (If you are so convinced it's all some weird role playing game why don't you just wait for a little while until people let you go. If it is a game nothing bad is going to happen to you. Don't keep running away with no idea of where you are going!) Also the Scottish accents are irritating. Don't try to write in dialect, let me figure it out on my own. I'm almost 100 pages in (long past the time when I should be engaged) and I could care less about what is going on. Putting this one down for now.

I'm on a huge romance novel kick and thought this book might be a nice way to read some historicals that were not regency (because I am a little sick of regency) but it's very boring and I can't imagine reading the other 500 or so pages that are still to come.

Hee! I can't tell you how much I have been waiting for someone else to hate Diana Gabaldon as much as I do ... UGH! (So many wonderful and smart and thoughtful people on my f-list LOVE these books, and I find them abominable. NB: I read through all the first AND second ones because I am a masochist; they do NOT get any better!!)

It's good to know that they don't get better just after I've stopped reading (I have book anxiety and often finish the worst novels because I'm sure that it will get better just after I stop). The worst part is I think there is a good book in there, it has many elements I do like, but it isn't the book that got written.

You read two whole books, you are much braver than I.
