The Phantom of the Opera

brigid31Yesterday I saw the Phantom of the Opera and it was every bit the wonderful melodramatic mess it should be. Emmy Rossum actually has a good voice and Gerard Butler is hot (way too hot to be the Phantom also he his deformity keeps changing shape.) Patrick Wilson is also hot. Also I love Patrick Wilson because he named his horse from the movie Frodo. What a wonderful dork he is. I thought the costumes looked cool too. If any one wanted to give me this for any reason at all I would not complain. This is good too. And while we're at it let's throw in this.
The Phantom of the Opera may not be a great movie but it is everything the Phantom of the Opera should be. It's weird because I don't feel that it was robbed of accolades or that people should like it more but it was still perfect. Because I like so many other fake goth girls was in love with the show after seeing it. The music is okay (way too 80's synth) but the show is really awesome in person. And some of that is missing in the movie but it's alright. My favorite songs are the ones with all the people on stage. I adore "Prima Donna" and "Masquerade" but the love songs are pretty good too. They all translate fairly well to screen (I think "Prima Donna" is a bit more suited for the screen because it isn't a stagnant number as in the show.)
This review makes no sense. I don't care though but I must tentatively endorse POTO. Especially if you like the stage show (or are a fan of hot men who sing because the movie has those even though you might be bored in other parts.)
One Last Note: At the end of the movie the guy sitting in front of me went "Woo!" really loudly and started clapping. Maybe he was being sarcastic but it seemed pretty genuine. All I could think was "Okay buddy it wasn't that good of a movie." Also I hate when people clap at movies because it's not like anyone who made the movie can hear you.
