brigid31I went over to the pit of voles (tm someone much wittier than I) to find some Phantom of the Opera fanfiction. Because I am obsessed. I saw it again today and now I want to see it a third time. Someone needs to stop me. Also it has been a whole week and no one has gotten me Gerard Butler, Patrick Wilson or Emmy Rossum. Anyway I went in the hope that there would be good fic. Some of it is not totally terrible. I'm probably going to end up reading a bunch of crap because I'm obsessed.
While the good fic is hard to find (and if anyone knows where there might be recs please point them out to me) I did find a million crappy fics some of which have very amusing summaries. And about half of which include Erik (the Phantom) findng children and bringing them into the Opera House. Or Blind girls who need his help who fall in love with him because he is so wonderful OMG!!! (Also there seem to be a fair number of fanfics involving girls going back in time to meet Erik and show him how wonderful love can be when it isn't with Christine. That reminds me of when I first found Newsies fic and it seemed like that was every single story.) Anyway some of the summaries are amusing I'm putting them behind a cut.
"Raoul and Christine move to Norway, and all seems well; and then Christine goes mad." -- Well I just hate when that happens.
"What if Erik rescued Eponine and Marius became the new owner of the Opera Populaire? Wouldn't you like to know. Erik-Eponine, Raoul-Christine, Marius-Cosette." -- I guess they are both set in France. Why shouldn't we cross over Phantom and Les Mis? Oh, the 50 plus years between them aren't important.
"A twenty-first century girl finds herself in nineteenth-century Paris. Can she save Erik from tragedy? Probably not." -- This one makes me laugh for no reason what so ever.
"Erik and Christine are together and married. Two blessings are placed upon them, but Christine is now contantly[sic} haunted by her childhood. To make things all better Raoul decides to kidnap her in hopes of getting her back. Based mostly on ALW'S version." -- There is no possible way this story could live up tothe story I am picturing in my head.
"Slash (if you don't like slash, then don't read this). Christian Daae, a young tenor, is visited by an old friend, Jezebelle de Chagny... but Jezebelle could endanger Christian... especially if she finds that he and Erik are in love..." -- Again the real story has no hope against the one I am picturing in my head.
"When an insane teenage girl accidentally summons the infamous Phantom she recieves[sic] a lesson in life, and he recieves[sic] a lesson in love." -- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are also a few Moulin Rouge crossovers (generally occuring when Raoul carelessly tosses aside Christine and who should be living at the Moulin Rouge except her beloved Erik.) Also ErikRaoul slash (which is pretty I get the visual but no.) Also there is an AU where it's 1942 and Erik is a Nazi.
Dude Phantom fans are a crazy bunch of folks. I think I'm going to have to avoid the fandom (though the pretty of the movie keeps calling me) unless there is some non-crazy section of fandom I can not currently find. It makes me sad because there are plenty of good ficcing options (and most of them would not have to be crazy Raoul bashing because I like him and he loves Christine and she loves him.) This is curing me of my obsession (even though I am still in love with the movie and want to have like ten thousand of it's babies.)

Date: 2005-02-06 03:52 pm (UTC)But you should go see it!!! It's so wonderfully cheesy I love it. And Patrick Wilson, Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum are all pretty. If you don't see it in the theater the next time I see you (assuming of course it is on DVD) I will make you watch it!!
